Charles Coe

Game Trespass, 1850

KETTERING PETTY SESSIONS, January 11th.

Game.—Charles Coe, of Desborough, was charged with poaching. Thomas Lauder deposed that on Christmas-day he saw a hare in a snare, and presently afterwards saw the defendant with three other persons come near to the place; heard them debating which should go and see whether anything were caught; after which he (the defendant) said he would go, and forthwith went to the spot where the hare was, took it from the snare, and ran away. Coe was convicted, and the offence having been on Christmas-day, it was dealt with in the same manner as if it had been on a Sunday. Fined £2, and costs 10s. 6d., or imprisonment for one month.

COMMITMENTS TO THE COUNTY GAOL AND HOUSE OF CORRECTION.
