Henry Coe

Neglect of Work, October 1862

Petty Sessions, Wednesday, October 22nd

Desborough

James Malivoir, agent of Walters and Co., silk velvet and plush manufacturers, charged Henry Coe, weaver, of Desborough, with neglecting to finish a certain quantity of work given out to him with written specifications for completion in certain time. Informant said he gave out material to defendant on 18th August last, to manufacture into silk velvet. The work was to have been completed in 28 days, as specified in the document produced, and to which defendant agreed. Defendant had had £1 3s. on account, and not over a day's work had been done. Went over to Desborough, and found the work spoiling from damp. Did not wish to press the charge, his only motive in bringing it forward was to gain protection in order that his master's property might go on in a proper manner.

—Defendant, promising to complete the work in a month, was discharged on payment of 7s. 6d. costs.
