Militia Deserter: 1865, 1866

Northampton Division Petty Sessions. Saturday, May 11th.

Deserting from the Militia.— George Andrews, Desborough, was brought up on remand charged with having deserted from the Northamptonshire and Rutland Militia, in the months of May 1865 and 1866.

— He admitted the charge to Inspector Beattie, who apprehended him.

— Sergeant Tilly, of the Militia, appeared to support the charge.

— The prisoner said he did not know when the Militia came out, for he was at Llanhwti, in South Wales, where the people spoke little English.

— The Magistrates passed on the prisoner the lowest sentence the law allowed, namely 40s. and 6s. costs, or in default of payment, one month's imprisonment.
