Theft of Food, 1903

Harry Sturgess, labourer, Desborough, was charged with stealing a
cloth, bread, meat, and cheese, value 1s., the property of Jesse Tyrrell,
		at Rushton, on June 25th.
		—
Prosecutor deposed that he was working in a pea field belonging to
Mr. Cook, and missed the articles produced from his basket, which he
left near the hedge in the field.
		—
P.S. Markham said he brought the prisoner to the Police Station on
another charge, and suspecting him of this theft, told him to take off
his boots, finding the cloth wrapped round one of his feet. Prisoner
said he was hungry, and took the food.—
He pleaded guilty, and was sent
to prison for 21 days' hard labour.
