Assault, 6 April 1901

Assault at Desborough.— William Sturgess, shoehand, Desborough, was charged with assaulting Wm. Bates, at Desborough, on April 6

— Complainant stated that he had been subjected to persistent persecution by the defendant for some time. On the night in question defendant, who was his brother-in-law, entered his house and hammered him right and left, rendering his face like a piece of liver.

— P.S. Markham stated that the complainant's face was badly bruised and cut.

— Defendant said that he went to the complainant's house at the request of his sister, who said that her husband was going to knock her about. He heard the complainant assaulting his wife, and he entered the house and pulled him off and struck him.

— Defendant was fined 10s. and 13s. 4d. costs; 14 days' in default.
