Kitty Essex was the first wife of William Crick. It looks as if a blank space was left at the top of this memorial for her husband's name. It was possibly never used because 10 years after Kitty's death William was remarried - to Jane, the widow of Kitty's older brother William Essex.

George was the eldest of Kitty and William's three children. The youngest, Annie, was born not long before Kitty died, so it is possible that Kitty did not recover from the birth.
