Robert Foster was the fourth (known) son of William Foster and Mary Nursey. He was born in Rothwell in 1813 and baptised in the Wesleyan church at Desborough.

Robert was a master tailor, which he later combined with innkeeping.

In 1834 he married Elizabeth Sharp of Great Easton in Leicestershire.

Elizabeth was born in 1812, the daughter of Leonard and Mary Sharp.

Robert and Elizabeth lived in Desborough after their marriage. They had six (known) children
