Francis George Panter was born at Desborough about 1882 and baptised there on 6th May 1883. His parents were John Panter and Selina Coe.

His wife Clara was born in 1886 at Desborough, the daughter of Caroline Marlow and James Coe Bindley. Clara's surname appears in some places as Marlow, in others as Bindley; her birth was registered the quarter before the marriage of Caroline and James. Caroline died at the age of 23 when Clara was only 5 years old, and she and her brother John appear to have been brought up by their grandparents John and Rose Marlow. It's not yet clear what happened to Clara's father James, but in 1911 he was in prison in Northampton.
