Henry Willis Cheney was born about 1844 at Harrington, the fifth known child of William Cheney and Mary Ann Willis.

Charlotte Kilborn was the seventh of thirteen known children of Samuel Kilborn and Eliza Baines. She was born at Desborough on 1st June 1841.

Henry and Charlotte were married about 1869. Before that the 1861 census indicates that Charlotte was looking after her youngest sibling, her deaf and dumb brother Joseph.
