Frederick Joseph was the fifth of seven (known) children of James Biggs of Desborough and Mary Ann (surname not known) of Wilford. He was baptised at Desborough on 1st February 1846.

James Biggs seems to have been well off. In 1851 he was a farmer employing 6 labourers, plus 3 servants and a governess.
