William Sharp was born at Helpston where he was baptised on 1st April 1855. His father, Samuel, came from Lincolnshire. His mother, Frances, was native to Helpston.

William was first married to Sarah Ann Black who came from Maxey. They were living in Desborough by 1881 where William was working as a Pointsman for Midland Railway. Their only child Florence was born about 1887.

Sarah died before the 1901 census and Louisa Bamford was shown in the census as housekeeper for William. Towards the end of 1901 Louisa and William were married.
