Lettie Cyprus Walters was born at Desborough, the daughter of George Walters and Harriet Turner, both of Devon. George was a small-scale farmer in Devon. By 1871 the family had moved to Little Addington in Northamptonshire where George was a farm bailiff and manager of an iron stone mine. By 1891 the family was living in Desborough.

JohnJohn William Robinson was born at Glendon Lodge in Northamptonshire, the son of Lewis and Caroline Robinson. The Robinson family moved to Rothwell where John worked in the shoe trade.

John and Lettie were married late in 1905. The evidence of children's birthplaces, census, and their own burial site suggests that they lived in Desborough during their married life.
