Robert Iliffe was born in 1703.

This Regiment of Horse was known as "Montagu's Carabineers". It took part in the Battle of Culloden after which it was disbanded.

Cornet: "the third commission-officer in a troop of horse or dragoons. This is a very honourable post: he commands in the lieutenant's absence; his principle duty being to carry the standard, near the middle of the first rank of the squadron. Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1st ed.
