Charles Huckaby Marlow was born about 1857, the youngest of seven children of William Marlow of Desborough and Alice Harris of Skillington in Lincolnshire.

Charles' wife Jane was born in Desborough about 1858, but her father Isaac Horsley came from Corby and her mother Sarah Hornbuckle came from Owston in Leicestershire.

Charles and Jane were married in 1881. They had six children (known to date). Their eldest son William served for 2 years during the Great War until he was discharged as being no longer physically fit for service. Their second son Ernest served in a machine gun company and died of wounds in 1919.

Jane also lost two nephews during the war: Reuben and Arthur Horsley, both killed in 1918.
