Lucy Marlow was born in Desborough, eldest of five (known) children of Jesse Marlow and Ann Coe, both also born in Desborough.

Lucy married George Ernest Aiers in in 1904. George was born in Cononley, Yorkshire, in 1881. In 1901 he was working as a railway clerk and lodging in Desborough with Elizabeth Reculest, nee Marlow (no relation to Lucy).

George was the son of George Aiers, born in Southam in Warwickshire. George Aiers senior was a railway stationmaster whose eldest two children were born in Cononley, the next in Barrow in Leicestershire, and the next in Tilbrook in Bedfordshire. George junior was also a stationmaster by 1911, in Lowdham, Nottinghamshire where his and Lucy's daughter Dorothy was born.
