John Sharman Burditt was born about 1844, the eldest son, and third (known) child of William Burditt and Alice Sharman.

He married Eliza (or Elizabeth) Foster in 1871. In 1871 John was a shoe riveter, by 1881 he was the manager of a boot warehouse where Eliza also worked, as an overlooker (supervisor).
