Herbert Marlow was the sixth of nine children known to have been born to Robert Marlow and Ann Robinson. He was born at Desborough on 12th August 1836 and baptised the following month at the Wesleyan Chapel.

Herbert married Eliza Coe in 1860. Eliza was the daughter of John Coe of Desborough, and Margaret (maiden name not yet known) of Newton Harcourt in Leicestershire.

The couple had five known children including the three shown on this memorial.
